FORGOTTEN REALMS

Well met! This is a world simmilar to Greyhawk, Mystara, and the generic world, in all aspects but those created by the novels. Here live the greatest heroes of the TSR novels; Drizzt Do'Urden, Elminster, the Harpers, Volo, Angus Blackstaff, Khelben Arunson, and more.

There is more than just Toril in the Forgotten Realms; Kara-Tur is the realm of the Oriental Adventures, and the Horde module is also in a forgotten realm. The Oriental campaign was introduced in the first edition and never converted into the second. Of course, parts of the world made it to the revision, such as monsters, proficiencies, and spells. More recently, the Ninja's Handbook (very good if your world is flexible towards a heavy oriental flair) converted the ninja class, oriental weapons, and fighting styles. An article in Dragon Magazinerevised the Wu Jen. The Fighter's Handbook gave an incomplete version of the Samurai, and more weapons.

Some good books in the Forgotten Realms series include:

  • The Dark Elf Trilogy, by R. A. Salvatore
  • The Icewind Dale Trilogy, by R. A. Salvatore
  • The Legacy, by R. A. Salvatore
  • Starless Nights, by R. A. Salvatore
  • Seige of Darkness, by R. A. Salvatore
  • Passage to Dawn, by R. A. Salvatore
  • Daughter of the Drow, by Elaine Cunningham
  • Elminster: the making of a mage, by Ed Greenwood

    R. A. Salvatore ranks as one of my favorite authors (P. N. Elrod is the other; see the Ravenloft section). His non-TSR books are also worth reading. These include non-TSR books such as The Crimson Shadow series (Sword of Bedwyr), the Spearwielder series (Woods out Back), and more.

    Other Forgotten Realms sites include:
